“If” I Could
If I could take your pain away,
I would swallow it whole so that you
would smile today.
If I could cry for you,
I would drown your tears deep
within my soul, making things
all new.
If I could carry your weight
of the world,
I would ball it up and pitch
it with an olympian twirl.
If I could heal your scars,
I would wrap you in a bubble
and gently place you on star.
Since “if” could be followed by
maybe or might,
I have no more “ifs” to write.
For my love has no “maybe or
“might.”
It is a surety that lives deep
inside--not always in
plain sight.
